Healing the winter blues …..

I think I have the winter blues.   It’s a regular thing with me.    By late winter the lack of sunshine starts to leave  melancholy little shadows  over my life and I struggle to warm up to being bothered.

It’s a pain to lose your enthusiasm – but nothing a few good days of sunshine and warmth won’t cure.   I   am already eagerly anticipating spring.

A rainy day

I feel a little skip in my heart when I see new buds forming on the trees and bulbs bursting into flower.  The days are starting to grow longer and I can almost smell spring in the air.

But for right now I’m just soldiering through these last days of winter and doing what I can to keep motivated. I have blog posts I should be writing but, as you can see from the date on my last post,  haven’t.

To be honest all my energy right now goes into retaining some  level of excitement about the sameness of  life.  It’s hard work, but worth it for my family who don’t seem to feel the winter blues like I do.

I think maybe the bears have the right idea.  Snuggle up somewhere warm and cozy and sleep away the dark wet hours of winter.  Wait until the beauty of spring begins to show before you even think of popping your head outdoors.  Those bears they’re smart!

Luckily for me I know Spring is only weeks away and it’s lifting my spirits just thinking about it.   Those first few days when the air warms and the sun shines in a blue sky are like medicine to my soul.  They quickly heal away my winter blues and give me the hope and promise of sunshine for months to come.

Caz, they’re great shots. I suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder. I tend to hibernate in the ugliest of trackpants until the cold has passed! Can’t wait until it has gone!

Love your photos Caz. I often feel exactly the same way in winter. The dreary days get to me. Lucky it’s almost time for the sun to poke it’s head out once again!

Oh I so feel what you are saying!! I am not enjoying the coldness, nor the wind at the moment.
Give me QLD winter anytime πŸ™‚
Love your pics – can’t wait for Spring Time/Summer Time to warm up these old bones.
Next year I sure hope we are up North where its warmer. Often wonder how people cope where they have grey skys for long period of time? Do they feel the winter blues nearly all year long?

I have heard most of us in Ballarat have low Vit D levels – B to you think? I’ll have them all if it makes getting thru late winter easier πŸ™‚ 11 days to go.

I am the same, and I’m really feeling it this year and unfortunately, I tend quite a while to get back to me once Spring arrives.
I hope you’re feeling better soon and your photos are lovely x

Hi Caz..when I lived in Canberra the only way I could get through was to buy myself a big bunch of sunshine yellow daffodils as many times as possible through August! The yellow wattle cheered me up a bit too. …anything that would remind me that spring was on its way and get rid of that dull grey feeling that hung over me. I hope you see the sun more this month and don’t feel too sad.

Such a good idea. Every now and then I buy myself flowers just to make me happy. I think I need a big bunch of lovely yellow daffs. Thanks Carol πŸ™‚

Beautiful photos, Caz. I am loving the spring flowers and buds on trees right now. Spring isn’t too far away, even if the weather will stay wintery for a bit longer. Hang in there!

Caz, what a great post! I think that seasons are the perfect amount of time. Just when we start to get sick of the hot, cold, rain, whatever, it changes.

I too suffer from winter blues, but are encouraged by the buds of spring. Can’t wait! (My son has his bathers on today. I think he is wishing for summer!)

Hope you feel less blue soon. xxx
